Another declaration of Independence

I’ll not comment on the American document and its subsequent gem of inspiration, thought, reason, and lasting genius, as it stands alone.

Spiritually speaking however, there was a comment made some time ago which was heads and shoulders above all others both for time and eternity, and it was a statement of absolute certainty which revealed heavens plan, God’s heart, and mans hope.

Strangely enough, this was made when a man was barely visible as a man, and while he was separated from God, and while man hid as it were his face. And what pray tell was this declaration?

‘Tetelestai,’ more commonly known as ‘it is finished.’ Yes, a mere voice spoken on a few pieces of wood, words from a sinless man who was ever about his Father’s business, words spoken from a man who ‘sinneth not,’ and words spoken by the only truly fit man who graced the dust of the earth with his holy feet, all the while mind you, he was made sin.

This was the man Christ Jesus, the Lamb of God who took away the sin of the world, (by taking them upon Himself) and this ‘it is finished,’ was the final word spoken to both faith and the unbelieving faithless before death claimed its due. The pure in heart would learn that ‘if the son make you free….ye shall be free indeed,’ while the mocker too could no longer escape the judgment of a loving God.

This ‘declaration’ was witnessed by heaven, recorded by man, and appreciated by they who would believe as the true Magna Carta in regard to the soul of man. Freedom from sin, freedom from the law, freedom from bondage, and now free to live a life of godliness with eternal life stamped on the soul as the starting place and not the goal of the christian life.

This freedom speaks more to the quality of life than to the duration, as coming from the endless well of living water.

‘It is finished,’ said the Lord, as he bowed his head and gave up the ghost. ‘I have finished the work thou gavest me to do,’ was uttered long before Calvary, noting and proving that the son of man, and his words, were as reliable as the throne of God itself.

Yes bless God, we are happy for a fourth of July and all its wonderful intent, but truly the freedom God offers a rebellious soul is a sight to behold. And the greater the sin, the longer the  hallway of God’s marvellous goodness is seen; a glimpse of eternity trodden with: ‘For God So loved the world.’

‘It is finished,’ can equally be understood as ‘It is, it was, and it always shall be finished.’ This is the worth, the work, and the personal majesty of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Pass the declaration along, that others may hear that word: ‘draw nigh.’

A post from two years ago. America has seen some changes, but the word of truth changes not. The Declaration of Independence is masterful, and while the ideal is tampered with, there is ‘another’ that has proved to be the only food that satisfies the hungry.

    Happy fourth to all.

Oh I knew it was spam, I used to get lots of them – they never mention specifically the subject matter, only that it’s a “great blog,” then usually leave a URL that leads to a product. But I was bored, and I never tire of doing whatever I can to let a let a little air out of your overinflated ego.

Please do not confuse an all encompassing confidence in the living God and in His revealed and infallible proofs of scripture, with the obvious arrogance found in the minds of they who say ‘There is no God………………’
