New England beats Denver today

Well, since the AFC Conference game begins in 3 and 1/2 hours or so, this is obviously a guess. Am I an American football prophet and a betting giant of a bookie? Nope. I could be completely wrong and still have a halfway decent reputation.

Will Julian Edelman have a break out game? Will the Gronk snag a few TD passes? Will Brady be sharp as a tack? Will the NE defense be able to stop Denver’s power running game, coupled with Manning’s last stand? Don’t know, but there is a huge bet on the line worth mentioning.

Me a big gambler? Hardly, but you may catch yourself with a slight grin after seeing what is on the table.

My friend John and I were doing the usual man talk, and the big games came up, as they do, and I asked him who he liked. ‘Denver,’ he said without hesitation,  and I agreed NE must play one whale of a game in that stadium, so the bet was on: In the spirit of the beautiful blanket of white traversing our landscape which fell from the sky, one average sized snowball was agreed upon as the winning trophy.

Yep, we stepped up big, a snowball, but as it is there is always more to the story. The snowball is not really mine to give as it were. I can claim no ownership, since I had no hand in its making thank you very much. The white majesty is courtesy of the Creator, who, as He is wont, displays the curtain of His glory in the mid of winter.

Snow, that effulgent and blinding spread of awesomeness, creating havoc yes, but naturally providing an inescapable display of the hand of God. Though your sins be as scarlet, they will be as white as snow, and there is no greater contrast than the red against the brilliance of white.

Back to the game. Men predict things, and this is why the word of God is heads and shoulders apart from things which may or may not be wrong. I could be right about NE, and have no more fore-telling insight than a man who picked Denver if they were to win. Prophecy is written by the hand of God and He is never wrong, as the nature of Himself composes what we know as past, present, and future.

‘Go over into the village and you shall see a man carrying a pitcher of water. Ask him for the donkey, if he questions you, tell him the Lord needs it…’

‘I saw you Nathanael, under the fig tree……….’ (where he was oblivious to the eye of men)

‘You will deny that you even know me Peter…tonight……three times………’

Then there is than darn cock crowing as a reminder of the word of God and the overflowing grace which did not find fault.

‘When you shall see the abomination of desolation…………spoken of by Daniel the prophet…’ yep, THEY (to whom it regards) will see, and they will remember the word of Daniel, which is the word of God, for God is never wrong.

And, ‘in three days I will rise again…………’ for ‘no man takes my life, but I lay it down,’ meaning of course, that in the eternal counsels of God, men would be responsible for taking by wicked hands and slaying the Lord of glory, while leaving untouched the sovereignty of God who knows all things.

And we hear that loud voice: ‘that the scriptures might be fulfilled.’ And Paul’s defense of the gospel was that not only did this Christ lived, and died for our sins, and rose again, but more importantly, it was ‘according to the scriptures.’ This is the importance of prophecy, and it never fails.

Prophecy proves God’s word is good.  Prophecy to God is not a game, and is as sure as the throne of God itself.  ‘When the Spirit of truth is come, He will guide you into all truth.’ ‘Beginning at Jerusalem.’ Why? Good question:

Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.’ Love that.

‘Evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse.’ ‘Men will speak perverse things.’ Uh, yep, seen the news or read any godless blogs lately? God’s prophecies are reliable, verifiable, and truthful, for He is outside of time and knows all things.

Anyway, NE beats Denver, or not, and I have to borrow a snowball if I lose, for I am but a caretaker of another’s property.  Me a prophet? Nope, just a fine guess, which may be wrong. God? Never wrong.

(p.s. Is there a football wife, g/f who has a guy that likes the sport, but finds blogs distasteful?  Hey, run this by him, just might be a first down.)
