A few scriptures to consider

Bear with me a bit in explaining why these selected texts are front and center. Every verse has weight, every sentence has relevance of course, but do I think less of John 3.16 than Matthew 1.1? Of course not,  but here we take the road less traveled, so read, and feel free to submit YOUR fav and why.

And above it the cherubim of glory, shadowing the mercy-seat, of which we cannot now speak particularly….

The reference to the initial setting in the garden, through the law and the prophets, and here in Hebrews, through the Revelation, show the unfolding purpose and protection of God to His people throughout time. Of course the writer could not speak THEN in detail of this wonderful connection to all of scripture.

And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:

So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.

The reverence for the word of God is clearly seen, something it appears we take for granted today. Then there is the clarity of the law, IN ITS CONTEXT, the sense of it, and the subsequent understanding of what was read.

Esther had not yet shewed her kindred nor her people; as Mordecai had charged her: for Esther did the commandment of Mordecai, like as when she was brought up with him.

Without the influence of a godly uncle, this young lady would not have risen to prominence and stood against the wickedness of Haman to slaughter the Jews. Through Mordecai’s wisdom, and Esther’s diligence, an entire nation was preserved.

In Cana of Galilee, he manifested forth His glory

The moral glory of Christ could never be hidden; it never ceased from His being. His divine glory was yet veiled, as was His personal glory, but who He was, as a man who partook of Adam’s seed, could never be masked.

And Cain rose up to slay his brother.

Where oh where did such rage originate from, if not for the villainous human heart? And do we not see this same rage manifest today in a thousand ways, yet, God’s word proves true, that man evolves all right…….downwards….

And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.

Love this. Not needing spectacles, and Moses was a strong man. The eloquent and short reading of this text proves the genuineness and unflattering language of scripture. Men do not speak like this today.

Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

Solomon sought the more excellent way, and received from God everything he did not ask for. When the queen of Sheba came for a visit, she said of Him: ‘the half has not been told.’ She was blown away by they who attended to him, the mannerisms and behaviour of his staff.  Cut the baby in half was a statement most remarkable that proved the wisdom given by God. And what I appreciate the most? The ascent that he made as he strode up the steps. Purely a wonder to the eye to see a man so graced by God.

And His name is called the Word of God.

Man left alone could never name Him so.

He made the stars also.

So terse. So deep. So matter of fact. God, who upholds all things by the word of His power, is kind enough to give us a heads up so we do not walk through life as if we are brain-dead.

But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;

 Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,

 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

The Lord speaking to Saul, as Paul recounts this to Agrippa. A minister. A witness. A commission. An inheritance. Sanctification.  And of course his life and epistles prove this true entirely.

Etc:  In these few scriptures, we see the obvious hand of the Creator, we see His blessing upon contrite hearts, we see the utmost regard for the written word, we see his offer of grace to the ungodly mind you. We see God’s preservation and promise, and we see His willingness to impart wisdom to they who ask.

And of course we see the thread of the grace of God throughout scripture, and to Whom the Cherubim of glory……speak of the great covering, as He envelopes us under His wings as it were.

Our God is truly an awesome God.
