Hey Christian

(Maybe there is something here for believer and unbeliever alike)

Image result for singing hymns

Just a heads up to the pontiffs of pride, the holders and wearers of ‘the crown of truth,’ regarding THIS time of year, or so it is thought.  Ah yes, the Legalists have arrived.

I tire of reading about the arrogance of people who say they must at whatever cost, dissociate themselves from friends, co-workers, and yes family, for gasp, wait for it: observing Christmas.

Apparently you never received the memo regarding grace and liberty. Are ya listening? Grace and liberty regarding things you may not approve of. Sure I am well aware of ‘days and years’ and observing things that inflate ones ego to barter with God. Not too smart.

The Christians that I know do not barter with God, and many oh my, decorate a tree. God forbid!! Look away!! Blasphemy!!  Carnality at its finest!!

But good gravy, if you have a gripe with your sister’s birthday celebration, or your uncles wine tasting party, maybe you should go. Extend some mercy. Testify to the goodness of God. Show some genuine Christianity.

But when you are dead and gone, when your memory pops up in conversation, know this: you will not be remembered for your faith, but yes you will be remembered for your cold-hearted callousness and bitter spirit which somehow found fault with other believers singing the great hymns of the faith.

You have chosen to separate yourself because they are evil? Because they related to the birth of Christ? Oh please. ‘O come let us adore Him.’ ‘Adeste Fideles.’ ‘Joy to the world.’ Silent Night.’ ‘O Holy Night.’  Yeah, these hymns are a clear and present threat to you.

You will be remembered because you chose to cause a scene at every family event. You know the drill.  Scripture is quoted. A pine tree is pointed at as if it is the devils nephew. Guess what? Words get louder, and a family dinner is ruined. Yeah, you should be proud. We can disagree with people, and I most certainly do, but it is the spirit where and in which we carry our points that is more important.

You have seen it, I have seen it, and it is blatantly ugly.  A fisherman does not scream at the fish to jump into his net. Goodness, patience, self-control are all very attractive, and I dare say there is so little goodness displayed by they who boast of their superior stance in staying away from families during ‘Christmas.’

They are not impressed, and it has nothing to do with the scripture, whether you believe it or not. Taking a stance for the Lord and His word is not a carte blanche excuse to rail at everybody who doesn’t agree with you.

The gospel is clear. What you think of wine bibbing is not the gospel message, so when your brother drinks his wine, leave him alone. You don’t drink? Good for you, but news flash, it does not commend you to God, and you are no better for it. And your sister invites you to her family Christmas party? Go. And shut up about your vast library of knowledge regarding Nickolas, Ashtoreth, Jeremiah, Jack Chick, papal bulls; and consider that you are simply a humble fisherman, and only a guest.

Raise your voice and argue? You have lost them, and have been a pimple on an intended simple gathering. Christmas to the unbeliever is not about Christmas per se, but is a family gathering to celebrate family. Yes family. And yep, they will say ‘merry Christmas,’ so take it as a blessing and say ‘thank you,’ and don’t turn a dinner into a fright fest, where they fear your very company.

And no, they will not fear you for your ‘defense of the faith,’ but because you will be an obnoxious embarrassment. How about some Christianity on the menu, and how about actually thanking God for His mercy by allowing people in 2016 to gather in freedom, to pray, and yep, to even sing songs regarding He whose name is Wonderful.

And no, it won’t kill you to say ‘merry Christmas.’ And a word to the unbeliever: God’s word is good, very good, and addresses all issues of life. And to use a coupon of my own, I would like to add that some of the greatest music this world has ever known……..is Christmas music.  It’s kinda like a wink from God, that in the midst of disagreement, much beauty is free for the taking.

(And by the way, you do not want to be remembered for being a loud and lousy employee who was guilty of theft by stealing the employers time for looking up bible texts instead of working. You should not want to be remembered for slamming someone who simply said ‘merry Christmas and happy new year.’ We all know employees like this. Don’t be one of them.)

“Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.” Colossians 2:16-17. Who needs to say more? (But what you wrote is very well stated.) J.

Oh so very well said ColorStorm. It’s so easy to get defensive and blustery over this or that. Be merry, enjoy and be thankful for the people around you and let the spirit of Christ reign.

    Merry Christmas my friend !😀

What a great post about simply being a little tolerant. I suspect this lesson could apply to a lot more than just Christmas. Blessings and enjoy!

I expect this can relate to some people, however I read this with some scepticism, because I do not live in the USA and I get to expect there are unexpected crazy individuals that come out of the wood work at certain times with strange and different beliefs and I cannot know how truthful this claim is.

You say “people who say they must at whatever cost dissociate themselves from friends, co-workers, and yes family, for gasp, wait for it: observing Christmas.”

I can understand the non-Christian theists feeling this way and possibly various others who have some sort of mental hang-up about the celebration or their families, however, since the time I have been able to tie my shoe laces I cannot recall ever coming across such a person because the majority of genuine atheists realise this is not only a Christian celebration but it was deeply rooted in Paganism prior to the start of Christianity and would still be celebrated by Pagans.

Brief examples of before 1,000 B.C. we have the following gods or demigods born on December 25: Horus, Osiris, and Attis. Before 200 B.C. we have Mithra, Heracles, Dionysus, Tammuz, Adonis, and others, some such as Pharaoh Amenkept III, Ra, the Egyptian sun god, Horus, Attis, Dionysus among others were also born to a virgin.

Anyway Merry Christmas to you and all religions, may you all live in peace oneday.

Truth be told, this post points out the superficial nature of believers who separate themselves because of others who sing songs, celebrate family, and wish others a merry Christmas.

It is not about atheism at all. But tkx.

I suppose it would have been easy enough for ColorStorm to have made his post about atheists, specifically the war against Christmas crowd. Generally, however, Atheists seem to have gained more renown for taking people to court for putting up displays than for arguing with family members. Nevertheless, it seems altogether likely that they would do both. You don’t suppose the lawsuits overshadow the lawsuits would overshadow arguments with family members, do you?

  5. I have not yet met Christians who object to Christmas.

    That seems very strange.

      I can link silence, but I won’t.

It’s rather ugly. It kind of reminds me of the religious people who the Lord abraded for their focus on the letter of the law, and not the spirit.

This spirit is alive and thrives in every generation.

It is very strange. But check out the Puritans who came to Plymouth Rock and established the Massachusetts Bay colony. One of their objections to Christian practices in England was the celebration of Christmas, which they banned in their colony. J.

  6. Lol…”But good gravy.” You must be from the south.

I have a name for those who walk about bashing people on the head with their Bible. They are the Church of the Forever Dead. Sadly, these are the ones who think they are alive unto Jesus, but are in fact cold and stiff.

Ha Patrick, nope not from the south.

Something similar was the rebuke of keeping the outside clean………..but within are full of d.m bones.

Personally, I do not want to be guilty of that. An icy believer is not very warming. The Christmas nazis are……aw nevermind. lol

Great post! I did something related to this subject => https://citizentom.com/2016/12/21/will-we-celebrate-christmas-how/.

It had not occurred to me that some people would be that judgemental. Guess even with six decades behind me I can still be naive. I can also forget some of the things I have said. 😕

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

    1 Corinthians 13 :4-7
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
    ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:4-7‬ ‭ESV‬‬
A true Christian is patient and kind. A true Christian does not envy and boast, it is not arrogant and rude… a true Christian bears all things …
So a true Christian do not point out people for their mistakes or wrongdoings.
Jesus said : how do they know you are my disciple ? By Love.
Great post for reminder how we are going to act toward outsiders .

Come n visit me. Be glad to see everyone there .
