Unto the coping

Here we have a phrase not so common. ‘My tolerance is limited unto the coping. I can’t cope with such foolishness. Can’t cope with her stupidity. Can’t cope with his arrogance.’ He has zero ability to cope with any opinion other than his own. Some people simply have no tools to deal with any kind of difficulty. But I digress.

Many people have no idea what another coping is, other than a 5 yr. old boy can’t cope with his sisters ‘hysteria,’ (my loyal reader prob know)

Sooooo, what’s the greater point? Tkx for asking. In the construction of the Jerusalem temple with Solomon as the master builder, in addition to lavish stone and brass work, goldsmithing, tapestry, cedar and fir, and following the pattern given him with excruciating precision as to the length, breadth, height, and depth, this massive endeavor was a work the world has never witnessed.

There is a text, usually glanced over that reveals details that only inspiration would have us pay attention. With regard to the stonework, we read:

‘All these were of costly stones, according to the measures of hewed stones, sawed with saws, within and without, even from the foundation unto the coping, and so on the outside toward the great court.’

Can’t tell you how much I appreciate this, being somewhat of a tradesman myself. The coping work, be it in wood or stone, is extremely difficult to get perfect. I have seen seasoned professionals ruin exquisite pieces of wood when trimming crown molding against living room ceilings. Why? Well, the coping work was inferior, the cuts were off, the angles were poor; they may have been close, but a man worth his salt must have good coping skills. Done well, this craft separates the men from the boys so to speak.

From the beginning foundational work to the finishing, ‘unto the coping,’ the artisans of Solomon were heads and shoulders above most in the even more difficult coping of stonework. And once more, we see the details in the word of God that only delight our hearts. Does this not suggest that our efforts should have the same amount of seriousness, dedication, perseverance, skill, in whatever we do, whatever we say?

If you know a specialized worker, make his day and ask him to explain coping work, He will thank you.

  1. Barabbas Me says:

    ‭1 Peter 2:4-6 KJV‬
[4] To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, [5] ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. [6] Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: And he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

So grateful that He knows how to “cope” with us as a master builder. “Whose house we are”

True, but do you appreciate the gist of the craft work ? Be a wonderful conversation starter toward tradesman/ (women too so as not to offend) who may have never known such detail was in scripture. God and His word has an interest in detail.
