And God created great whales. They are great in every regard; of course they are, the greatest of playgrounds needed the greatest of guests.
He made the stars also. God called the dry land earth, and the gathering together of the waters called He seas. God saw that it was good. Yep, all from the same source.
For as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights…. even so shall the son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. Perhaps a great blue dialed up just for the occasion.
The largest animal on earth ever is the Great blue whale. (Some having a tongue that weighs as much as an elephant.) Dinosaurs? Meh. Great blues have weighed over 150 tons. Did I say God created Great whales? Do we not identify them as ‘great blue whales?’ Of course, let God be true and every man a liar.
Does this lying rule out mans ability to tell the truth? Of course not, as morality is not a respecter of persons, but to reject a Creator is simply foolish.
Kinda hard to ignore the fact that the largest creature on earth is mentioned in the very first book, even the very first chapter of scripture, and lives today as a testimony to God’s power and promises.
Then there is the song: ‘When I in awesome wonder, consider all the worlds thy hands have made.’ If the whale is great, how much more its maker.
How great thou art!

About whales, it is interesting to note there are two types of “killer whales” but of the same species. One type feeds on small plankton and are rather peaceful and mild in nature. The other type is predatory, travel great distances, attack larger whales, and other mammals. and are known to snatch young seals from the shore line. These two types of killer whales reminds me of two types of humans.

I’ve seen many whales. They really do make you contemplate the nature of the Creator. We’re used to being the top dog here on land, so It’s a bit surreal to encounter a creature you weren’t really expecting…the size of a ship. Not long ago I was on the beach walking around a point and a baby grey whale jumped up and blew his spout. Scared the heck out of me. It was “small” so it was only like, the size of a bus.

I really smile when Genesis includes that wee line about them. More impressive, is the fact countless people have read about whales and never saw one, probably had no clue what they even looked like.

No, you would trust your life in his hands, yet you do not extend to God the same courtesy.
As to the ‘fish,’ yep, that’s what it says in the book of Jonah, and it sure was wasn’t it; but I’m going with the Lord who made it who called it a whale.

Interestingly, the Great Blue Whale is also a baleen whale, filtering tiny plankton through the filters of its baleen –

You realize, of course, that all whales, dolphins and porpoises only returned to a full-time life in the sea after millions of years as four-legged land animals, much as the seal, sea lion and manatee are in the process of doing today.

Now you have me thinking about Jonah and what a disgusting mess he must have looked like when he got vomited out. Must have scared the bejebbers out of the Ninevites. It was a whale of a story.
Anyways, there’s a very good take on it in “Let us Reason” which makes sense. The bible actually describes this sea creature as a “great fish”.
KJV Jonah 1:17 Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
In any case, I’m one of those ridiculous people that believes if Jesus and the Bible said it, then I believe it and that settles it for me.

Yep, and in Matthew 12, the Lord said it was a whale. All great fishes are not whales, but all whales are great fishes so to speak.
The context is obviously that which lives in the sea. But as you said, Jonah was in a mess. Its better to be in a mess with the Lord though, than to have smooth sailing without him.

Have you ever seen the size of a whale shark’s mouth? It is huge. It is named a whale shark, but it is actually a fish! These are huge fish which could easily swallow a human. It appears their present day habitat does not coincide with Jonah’s location when we was trying to avoid Nineveh, and then was swallowed by a fish. But habitat can vary greatly given large amounts of time.
Then it is true that we have to keep in mind that God had prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah. This was a specially chosen fish designated to swallow Jonah before time began. Our heavenly Father doesn’t let anything happen to His children by happenstance. Isn’t that encouraging? God bless you:)

An animal weighing over 150 tons could eat a grape, but not a grapefruit, truly comical.
Anyway, it was a beautiful creature, used specifically for Jonah, the same way the donkey was used for the Lord.
All creation testifies to scripture and the glory of God.

Yep, and may I add, it took God no more effort to create a dew drop, than it did to make the oceans.
A person is hiding from himself to think a wooden table made itself.
Order and design implies intelligence. One can’t honestly deny this.
