First, a massive kudos goes to Xpraetorius for including this vid in his recent post called: ‘I love this stuff.’
Read his post, (the third paragraph is downright clever) listen to the links, and get his drift into the awesome humanity of we the people created in the image of God.
But this rendition of ‘Hallelujah,’ struck my fancy, and I’ll tell you why. It is a tribute to man’s lows and the grace of God, as told regarding David the king, and another mans wife. Each frame has purpose, see the harp, the marked piano keys, the cues, and the evident love by people in simply playing a part of the whole. ‘To ya, overthrew ya, don’t care for music do ya, through ya.’ Loved that. Do read the words below first, and full screen is a must.
David, a man after God’s heart, but subject to failure such as we. See the beauty of a woman, the test of the eyes and heart, the fail, the recovery, the worship, the restoration. See the audience as they understand, see the unity of couples, see the sweet harmony of the sound of music, see the musicians from all walks of life, see common people, and see humanity created in God’s image delighting in simple goodness.
Here are a few words from Leonard Cohens magnificent work, and do note the cadence:
Now I’ve heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don’t really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
You say I took the name in vain
I don’t even know the name
But if I did, well really, what’s it to you?
There’s a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn’t matter which you heard The holy or the broken Hallelujah
I did my best, it wasn’t much
I couldn’t feel, so I tried to touch
I’ve told the truth, I didn’t come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I’ll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
(After hearing and seeing the vid, and knowing that the reality of David’s indiscretion inspired this, I wonder if it’s possible for someone to say they do not like this. If so, there may not be a heartbeat, as this song speaks more to humanity than ‘religion.’)
Then there is this second work, a tribute to the man himself, Mr. Cohen, which I find quite appealing, but for totally different reasons.

And of course, this third rendition.
And fourth.
That post was the bomb, wasn’t it? Nice addition to the video here, too!

He adds to the appeal for sure W, he is acclaimed and known for his audiences being moved by his passion.
He kinda enjoys the violin as well. 😉

He seems to have fun! And if you are a musician and can’t have fun…what a waste. I’m not one LOL, but I do love to belt out a tune now and then. I like to see musicians that love what they do.

Fantastic covering of Hallelujah, the best I’ve ever seen, thank for sharing it! And you’re description, “…see humanity created in God’s image delighting in simple goodness.” Just awesome.
Was there a link to the original post, ” love This Stuff”? I’d like to read that one too…

Great, great post, CS! And many thanks for your very kind words.
It’s a wonderful song, with such a great example of just how difficult it can be to be a good man… especially when we generally know perfectly well what it is to be a good man. 😉
I love this part:
“I’ll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah”

You bet! It’s the same with me when I play it, CS.
After having watched and listened a few dozen times, something made me think: preparing and rehearsing for that show just must have been spectacularly good fun, and moving, and thrilling, as well!

MOVING……………….yep 😉
Btw, was that Mr Cohen to the far right of the stage at the end wearing the hat??
Or is it simply that I wished it were him…………..

I’m glad you prompted me to re-play “Hallelujah!”
I had neglected to mention something that I found utterly delightful about the recording. It was the images of the obviously non-professional musicians in the front row. Music can be so healing, so salutary, so uplifting, that no one should be denied its charms. Especially the charms of worship music. Jesus came for all of us, especially the humble.

Yep, that too was included in my ‘musicians from all walks of life.’ Awesome to see them involved. Makes it that much more potent.
Btw, it is worth mentioning that the female singer to the right, when singing of the ‘fall,’ her head dropped down for a sec………….that was so awesome.

I’ve always loved this song–and that David—the great and the fallen, all rolled into one, could inspire such…is quite the amazement —thank you for sharing—

Yes jewels, if the fallen is great, what can we say of Him but: ‘How great thou art?’ as in He above, through, and in all…. well let’s see:
To Him be all worth and praise!
And, all the best to you!! 😉

I love this song, and all entwined with David, just beautiful! There was a delightful gem hidden in these words too, “humanity created in God’s image delighting in simple goodness.” I wish I could fit all that on a bumper sticker.

Yes agree, awesome words. even more so knowing a little background of the writer. And Andre knows how to put together a production.
And ya know, there are some things in life that are just plain good; so much going on in this vid, the layers and the players, glad you liked it ms bytes.
And the other versions have their own charm too, but not quite the ‘life.’ if you get the drift. 😉
